In January 2007, an International Society for the Study of Zinc Biology (SZB) has been established. The SZB mission is to promote the advance of research in all branches of biology in which zinc is involved. Our Society is a consensus-based organization that strongly encourages exchange of information and ideas among zinc researchers. To that aim, the SZB will organize and support biannual meetings (Society for Zinc Biology meeting) to promote and sustain the growth of Zn2+ biology research. Following the annual meeting of the ISZB, Dec. 2009, a new board and officers for the society have been elected by the ISZB members. President: Elias Aizenman, Secretary: Michal Hershfinkel, Treasurer: Christian Sheline. Board members: Toshio Hirano, Richard Dyck, Stephen Lippard, Israel Sekler, John Weiss. Alternates: Richard Thompson, Christer Hogstrand. It was decided that the board will deal with issues related to establishing and formalizing the society. The term of appointment for the board is two years. A list of the members of the Board and Ad hoc members who volunteered is here. Please feel free to contact us with suggestions or comments. For this term, three committees have been established: a Meeting Committee; a Membership Committee; and a Publication/Advertisement committee. Members of those committees are also listed here. The previous By-Laws committee has established the By-Laws of the society that can be seen here.
We look forward to having more members join this growing and
dynamic society.
